Academic advisors can initiate, approve, or look up a student’s Change Major Request, as explained here. Faculty are encouraged to help students with this process.

Looking Up a Student’s Previous CMR
Initiating a Change Major Request
The student expresses a desire to change their degree, major, minor, or concentration.
Log in to
BengalWeb
.
Select the
Academics
link (left).
Go to the
Change Major Request
section.
Click
Start, Approve, or Lookup CMR
.
On the
Change Major Request
page, enter the student’s Bengal ID #.
Click
Load Student Data or CMR
.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and click
Add New CMR
to clear the student’s major information.
Scroll up to enter the desired changes in the spaces provided (
Primary Degree
,
Secondary Degree
, etc). Include the student’s
Catalog Year
and the
Effective Term
of each change.
In the
Faculty/Department Advisor Assignment Request
section, enter the requested information.
Scroll to the bottom and click
Submit CMR
, signifying you approved the request.
The student receives an email asking that they approve the CMR. (Best practice is to have the student access the email while still with you and approve the change.) The change will NOT be processed if they do not approve the CMR. Explain that they will get a new Primary Advisor once the changes take effect.
Once the CMR is submitted and approved, the Registrar’s office will make the changes in Banner and notify you both via email.
Approving a Change Major Request
The student initiates a
Change Major Request
(CMR).
Their Primary Advisor (you) receives an email that the student has submitted a CMR.*
Schedule an advising session with them to discuss the desired change.
During the session, login to
BengalWeb
and go to the
Academics
page.
In the
Change Major Request
section, click on
Start, Approve, or Lookup CMR
.
Enter the CMR # from the email, then click
Load Student Data or CMR
.
The student’s CMR is displayed under
Change Major Request
.
Discuss the student’s desired change(s) with them, then enter the change(s) in the
Primary Degree
,
Secondary Degree
, etc. sections, including the catalog year and effective term for each change. Explain that they will get a new Primary Advisor once this change takes effect.
Scroll down and choose to either
Change the current curriculum
or
Add a new curriculum
.
In the
Faculty/Department Advisor Assignment Request
section, add the requested information..
Click
Submit CMR
, which signifies your approval. The Registrar’s office makes the necessary changes in Banner and emails you and the student.
Looking Up a Student’s Previous CMR
In
BengalWeb
, go to the
Academics
page.
In the
Change Major Request
section, click on
Start, Approve, or Lookup CMR
.
Enter the Bengal ID#. then click
Load Student Data or CMR
.
Select the desired CMR# from the drop-down list in the
Change Major Request
section.
The CMR information will load for you to see.
Note:
The Veterans, Athletic, and International Programs offices will be notified when any student under their jurisdictions submits a CMR or has a CMR approved and processed.
