Identifying Features in the Zoom Home Menu

After accessing your ISU Canvas course, click on the Zoom activity in the left-hand Navigation menu. The main header area includes the following features:

  • Your current Time Zone and Language: By default, the time zone and language are managed by ISU Canvas. Users can change the time zone and language manually be clicking the pencil icon.
  • Upcoming Meetings: Displays current and recurrent meetings. From that tab, both the host and participant can click the appropriate button to start or join a meeting. Note that recurring meetings with no fixed time will be display first, followed by meetings with specific start dates listed chronologically.
  • Previous Meetings: Displays past meetings that have occurred. From that tab, the host can review a meeting report which includes detailed information regarding participant attendance and poll responses.
  • Personal Meeting Room: Includes your Personal Meeting ID (PMI). This meeting room is always open and is useful for starting meetings instantly. The host can modify their PMI by clicking the Edit this meeting button. Note: Only the host/instructor can see this tab.
  • Cloud Recordings: Lists the past meetings with the recordings associated with them. Use filtering to find a recording from a specific date. Note: If the link to the Zoom activity is showing for students, they will be able to access all cloud recordings associated with the course. If you do not wish for students to have access to the Cloud Recordings, you can disable it from the Settings/Navigation menu.

Adding a Zoom Meeting Link to an ISU Canvas Course Module

  1. Access the ISU Canvas course that you wish to add the meeting link to.
  2. Locate the specific module that you wish to associate with the meeting link.
  3. Select + at the top of the module to add an activity.
  4. In the Add dropdown, select External Tool.
  5. Scroll through the choices and select Zoom.
  6. The URL is automatically created. The default Page Name is Zoom but you can modify the name if you wish.
  7. Select Add Item. The Zoom link will be added to the bottom of the selected module and you can drag-drop it to the desired location within the module.
  8. To schedule a specific meeting time, select the Zoom activity within the module. You will be notified that the tool needs to be loaded in a new browser window. Select the Load Zoom in a new window button. This will take you to the Home page of your personal Zoom account.
  9. In the upper-right corner, select Schedule a New Meeting.
  10. After adding the meeting details, select Save.

Scheduling a Zoom Meeting Activity

The Zoom activity within ISU Canvas acts like a meeting hub for your course. Instructors can schedule meetings for single events, recurring events, or meetings with no fixed time. 

  1. From within your ISU Canvas course, click on the Zoom activity in the Navigation menu.
  2. In the top right-hand corner, click the Schedule a New Meeting button.
  3. Configure your settings and select Save. Note: Students will access the Zoom meeting from the Navigation menu. To add the meeting to a specific module, see the instructions above.

Accessing Zoom Cloud Recordings in ISU Canvas

  1. From within the course, click on the Zoom activity.
  2. Select the Cloud Recordings tab.
  3. Locate the specific recording by either Topic, ID, or Start Time (Date)
  4. Select Play - recording will open in a new window.
