Static or echo in a Zoom meeting usually occurs when two participants close to each other both connect with the audio or when one person joins using both a phone and a computer. This creates multiple audio sources, leading to feedback.
To avoid this issue, ensure that only one audio source is connected when in close proximity to another participant. If necessary, disconnect other nearby audio connections by hanging up the phone or selecting "Leave Computer Audio" from the microphone icon's drop-down menu. Keep in mind that the dueling audio sources may not necessarily be near you but could instead be occurring at the location of another participant.
