Moodle ISU Book: Options in ISU Canvas for Faculty

The Moodle book allows you to give information to your students in a multi-page, book-like format. A Book is a Moodle ISU activity not available in ISU Canvas.

Instructions:

Book activities from Moodle will be imported into Canvas as separate Pages. Based on the content and purpose of your Moodle Book, you may want to reorganize or restructure your pages in Canvas.

What if my Syllabus is a Moodle Book?

Drafting a comprehensive syllabus for your ISU course can be time-consuming, but the ITRC has created several customizable syllabus templates for faculty use.

Visit Course Syllabus Templates to find a template.
Create a copy of the syllabus template, this adds the template to your Google Drive.
Rename the document specific to you and your course.
Add your specific course information to the syllabus template.
Add the completed course syllabus to your ISU Canvas course:
1. Open your ISU Canvas course
2. Navigate to the module where you would like to add your course syllabus
3. At the top of the module click the "+".
4. In the Add to Course Info and Resources field, scroll down and choose External URL.
5. Copy and paste the link to your course syllabus into the URL field.
6. In the Page Name Field, add a name for the page containing the link to your course syllabus
7. Select Add Item at the bottom of the Add Item to Course Info and Resources window.

Can I use a Google Doc to replace my Moodle Book?

Using a Google Doc with document tabs is a possible solution for replacing a Moodle Book in Canvas.

Create a Google Doc and use document tabs to separate your content.
Store the Google Doc in your Google Drive.
Update the General Access to, Anyone with the link.
To add the link to your course:
1. Open your ISU Canvas course
2. Navigate to the module where you would like to add your course syllabus
3. At the top of the module click the "+".
4. In the Add to Course Info and Resources field, scroll down and choose External URL.
5. Copy and paste the link to your course syllabus into the URL field.
6. In the Page Name Field, add a name for the page containing the link to your course syllabus
7. Select Add Item at the bottom of the Add Item to Course Info and Resources window.

What else can I use to replace my Moodle Book?

Using DesignPLUS in ISU Canvas, you can design an interactive book in your course.
