Using the ISU Canvas Survey to Replace the Moodle ISU Feedback Activity

This article provides instructions on how to use the Survey Activity in ISU Canvas to replace Moodle ISU Feedback at Idaho State University (ISU). The equivalent to the Moodle ISU Feedback activity is a Survey in ISU Canvas. Surveys can be used to receive graded or ungraded feedback from students.

1. In Course Navigation, select the Quizzes link
2. Select the Add Quiz button
3. Select Classic Quizzes as the Quiz Engine
4. Select the Submit button
5. Add a survey title and instructions
6. Select the Quiz Type drop-down menu and select the desired survey type (Graded or Ungraded)
7. Select Survey Options such as the assignment group (category), survey score, and availability dates
8. Select the Questions tab to manually create new questions or to find existing questions
9. Select the Save button to save work and preview the survey
10. Select the Publish Button to allow students to view the survey

What will happen to Feedback when I import from Moodle ISU?

• No matter what the original settings for the Feedback are in Moodle ISU, Feedback activities will import as an ungraded survey into ISU Canvas. The new survey will retain the original number of attempts (single vs. multiple).

Can responses be kept anonymous?

• Within surveys, responses can be kept anonymous. The anonymous option applies to both graded and ungraded surveys and can be enabled and disabled before or after survey submissions.

What types of questions are available?

• In the question type drop-down menu, the following types of quiz questions are available: Multiple choice, true/false, fill-in-the-blank, fill-in-multiple blanks, multiple answers, multiple drop-down (can be used for Likert scales), matching, numerical answer, formula, essay and file upload. To find out what kind of options are available for questions, please see the question type lesson in the Instructor guide.

Can I use a Likert (Quantitative) Scale?

• A Likert scale question can be created using the Multiple Dropdowns question type. See the  Likert scale lesson for more information.
