Microsoft has announced it will end support, updates, and security patches for its Windows 10 operating system after October 14, 2025. ISU ITS and technology partners across the University are working together to upgrade all eligible affected University-owned and managed machines to Windows 11 before this deadline. Transitioning from Windows 10 is vital for ensuring ongoing device safety and functionality. Once Microsoft ceases support, devices running Windows 10 will continue to operate but will no longer receive essential security updates, bug fixes, or technical support from Microsoft. Without protection against potential new vulnerabilities, these devices will become increasingly susceptible to malware and other cyber threats. Unsupported operating systems also risk being incompatibility with future software and cloud services. Employees who need to access secure Banner data will be unable to log in unless their PC is updated to Windows 11.
