Genio

Summary

A training guide on how to install and Use Genio.

Body

What is Genio?

  • Genio is a program that can be used to record lectures and create audio transcripts and live captions.
  • Genio can also be used for notetaking and task management.
  • Genio is available on computers through the browser and on phones through an app. Genio has a cloud that allows you to have save data that you can view on both your phone and computer.
  • Genio is free to ISU students when access is requested through ISU's Disability Services center.
  • The images of steps are demonstrated on the computer interface, but all features are also available on the app version.
  • Genio used to be called Glean when this was first written, so all of the screenshots say “Glean” on them. Genio is still visually/functionally the same, so the screenshots should still work as references.

Steps to Get Genio

  1. Check your email for a message from Genio.

You should have an email from Genio that will allow you to create an account for free.

Genio's Features and Tools

  • To record audio during lectures, hit the red record button at the top left.
  • The recording can be paused or stopped at any time.
  • After recording, click the transcript button over near the right side of the screen (between “audio” and “outline”) and hit the “transcribe audio button”.
    • After a moment you will see an audio transcript of the lecture.
    • The transcript will not always be perfect word to word, but it’s a useful tool.
  • While using Genio, you can insert slides or PowerPoints into the site to be used while taking notes.
    • If you have the slides downloaded, you can upload them using the “import slides” button.
    • You can scroll through the slides using the arrows beneath them.
  • You can take notes using the text box at the bottom of the screen.
    • You can use headings, mark things as important, and mark them for review.
    • You can also insert images into your notes using the “post image” button, or insert drawings using the “post scribble” button (the squiggly line at the very end of the note functions).
    • You can also insert definitions and tasks into your notes (both found on the note functions bar above the text box as well).
  • You can also organize your recordings and transcripts into different "collections".
  • You can also toggle between light and dark mode using the sun/moon icon at the top right of the screen.
  • Here are some screenshots of the Genio interface before and after taking notes.
