I found a video that doesn't have any captions. Who can help me?

Summary

What to do and who to contact when there are missing captions or transcripts.

Body

Issue

I have found a video/audio file that does not have captions or transcript available.

  • Symptoms: The video does not have captions, the CC button does not work or produce captions; there is no link to an audio transcript included on webpage.
  • Possible Causes: The video host has not activated the AI caption generator; or has not included a caption script; audio transcript has not been supplied or linked to.

Cause

The media originator has only posted their audio/video content to their course, website/media hosting service without the inclusion of ADA accessible documentation.

Resolution

If you have found a video without captions, or audio file without a transcript here at ISU, let us know via email to: Captioning@isu.edu.

  • We will need to know where you found the audio/video link. (E.g. The name of the website, and specific webpage URL.)
  • We also need to know which audio/video it is. (Include the URL to the file too.)
  • Please include your content information, and additional details as to the symptoms you are experiencing.
  • Information as to why or what lead you to the content. This helps us to know the context of your access to the media. (like if it is for a course assignment, or personal interest, etc.)
  • Inclusion of any further information will help us be able to investigate and be proactive with future content created by this originator.
Please report your findings as soon as possible so that we can get them fixed as quickly as possible.

We will be in contact with you.
