Resolution
Single Number Reach (SNR) is a feature of Cisco Unified Communications that allows calls placed to your ISU VoIP desk phone number to ring on a remote phone (such as your cell phone, home phone, etc.).
-
Single Number Reach is the recommended call forwarding feature, providing more professional results than regular call forwarding.
-
Single Number Reach will route the call from your Cisco phone to your remote phone without showing your remote number to the caller. Furthermore, if you call an ISU number from your remote phone, it will show your ISU number. However, if you call someone outside ISU from your remote phone, your remote number will appear on their phone. In addition, if you don't answer the call on your remote number, SNR will use the voicemail system on your desk phone rather than your remote phone's voicemail.
Note: Ordinary forwarding of your desk phone to your remote phone displays your remote number to the caller AND uses your phone's voice messaging system if you don't answer.)
Requesting Single Number Reach
Note: Contact the ITS Service Desk to request that SNR be activated. You can contact them at help@isu.edu or by calling x4357. You will need the following information:
-
Your ISU Username
-
The ISU VoIP desk phone extension number you want SNR activated on.
-
The External phone number you want calls to go to.
-
Whether you want this all the time, 24/7 or from M- F, 8 am - 5 pm.
Networking and Telecommunications will activate the feature and notify you by email when it is set up. This can take 1-2 business days to complete, depending on demand.
Testing Single Number Reach
Once you get the email, we recommend testing to ensure it works as expected.
-
Ask a co-worker to call your desk phone.
-
When your desk phone rings, DO NOT answer it.
-
After a couple of rings, the remote number you configured should begin ringing.
-
Note: your desk phone will continue to ring so that you can answer from either phone
-
Answer your remote phone.
-
When you hang up your mobile phone, the caller is temporarily placed on hold while the SNR system disconnects the call. The caller may briefly hear ISU's hold music before the call ends.
-
Your co-worker will see your desk number on their display.
Note: If you set your phone to forward calls, it will NOT use the SNR function. SNR will only work if the forwarding feature is turned off.
Additional Features
Turning Off SNR
If you do not wish to have the SNR system connect calls to your remote phone, you can switch your desk phone to Do Not Disturb.
-
Look for the "More" dots on your phone's display to the right of Fwd All.
-
Press the button under the dots until you find the DND or Do not disturb option.
-
Press the button under Do not disturb. The phone will now go straight to Voicemail.
-
Remember to turn Do Not Disturb off again when you return to work. SNR will begin working again.
