Instructions for recording a video using Panopto Capture withing ISU Canvas.

Body

Description

This article provides instructions on how to use Panopto Capture to record a lecture video at Idaho State University (ISU).

With the Panopto LTI, videos can be embedded anywhere in ISU Canvas and played back on-demand on any computer, laptop or mobile device. The Panopto activity enables an instructor to upload, record or choose videos in the Panopto Video Management System and then embed those videos into a course. You can record directly into Panopto using Panopto Capture from any location that uses the TinyMCE editor or by adding the Panopto LTI into a module.

Note: The video quality of a video recording using Panopto Capture will depend on your browser configuration. Aspects like the number of tabs open, number of extensions installed, and amount of ram in your computer can lead to lower quality-video and audio recordings.

Accessing Panopto in ISU Canvas

In Panopto, all videos are organized into course folders. When the Panopto course tool is enabled, all of the videos within that folder are shared with everyone enrolled in the course. However, only instructors have access to create, modify, and share videos. Students only have access to search for and view videos that are within the course folder. To add the Panopto tool to Course Navigation:

  1. Select Settings from the left-hand navigation.
  2. Select the Navigation tab. If Panopto appears in the bottom section, click the 3 dots and select Enable.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the Navigation window and select Save.

We recommend that you enable the Panopto link in Course Navigation if you need to upload multiple videos in preparation for linking them into your course. Once you have your videos uploaded, you may want to disable the Panopto link so that students can only access videos from links in the modules.

Important Note: Do not create subfolders within the Panopto course folder that is created when you add Panopto to a course. The use of subfolders creates issues with the sharing settings.
