Introduction
SentinelOne is the new security and antivirus system that ISU is implementing on all the university-owned devices. All devices must have SentinelOne installed and activated going forward. New computer setups will include it by default. If you have an ISU-owned device that has not yet SentinelOne installed, it will need to be installed. Fortunately, this is a relatively easy process, and one that you can complete yourself on your ISU-owned Windows devices to minimize impact on your daily work.
This self-help guide will walk you through installing SentinelOne on your device. If you experience difficulties with this upgrade, please contact the IT Service Desk, and we will work with you to complete the installation.
Once installation is complete, please send your computer name to the IT Service Desk so we can configure your device in the security system. Instructions for finding the computer name and sending it to us will also be included in this article.
Please note: These instructions are written for machines running Windows. If you have a Mac or other device, please contact the Service Desk as detailed in the last section of this article to assist in installing this upgrade.
Instructions
Step 1 - Check whether SentinelOne is already installed
First you should determine whether SentinelOne is already installed on your system.
- Click on the Start button (the Windows button in the bottom left part of your task bar)
- In the search bar, type "Installed Apps" and click on the search result named "Installed Apps". This will pull up a list of all the apps you have installed on the device in the System Settings.
- In the list of installed programs, which will be alphabetical by default, scroll down to S and look for "Sentinel Agent"
- If "Sentinel Agent" is present on your device, you already have SentinelOne installed. At this point, there should be nothing more you need to do.
- If "Sentinel Agent" is not present in the list, it still needs to be installed. Proceed to step 2.
Step 2 - Install SentinelOne
- Open the ISU Software Updater. Depending on how long ago your device was set up, this can be in two different places. Start with option 1 below; if that doesn't work, try option 2.
- Option 1: For newer device setups, it is available from the start menu.
- Click the Windows (or Start) button in the lower left corner
- Type "ISU Software Updater"
- Click on the "ISU Software Updater" program that has an ISU logo if it comes up to start the ISU Software Updater
- Option 2: For older machines, or if it doesn't appear in the Start menu search, we will open it manually.
- Open File Explorer on your Windows device.
- This is the program that you use to organize the files on your device. It is usually available on your program bar as a yellow envelope icon; it will also be available in the start menu.
- In the left sidebar, click on "This PC."
- Double-click on "Local Disk (C:)" to open it.
- Double-click on "scripts" to open it.
- If either the "scripts" folder or the "ISUSoftwareUpdate.exe" file from the next step is not present on your machine, please contact the IT Service Desk. We will need to schedule an appointment to get your installation taken care of.
- Double-click on "ISUSoftwareUpdate.exe" to start the ISU Software Updater program.
- After opening the ISU Software Updater, you will be prompted with a window asking if you want to allow this app to make changes to your device. Choose "Yes".
- In the ISU Software Updater, click the checkbox for "SentinelOne", then click Update at the bottom.
- Wait a few minutes while the program is installed. When it is finished, a pop-up will appear that says "Update Complete".
- SentinelOne is now installed. We still need your computer name to configure the device in the security system. Please proceed to step 3.
Step 3 - Send your computer name to the IT Service Desk
-
Click on the Start button
-
In the search field, type "About your PC"
-
Choose the search result that says "About your PC"
-
In the settings window that comes up, one text box will say "Device name". Note the name in that box.
-
Send an email to the
IT Service Desk stating that you have installed
SentinelOne on your device, and include the following information:
-
The device name
-
Your department
-
You are now done. Thank you!
