Introduction
Microsoft Word's performance can deteriorate and significantly slow down if bloated with add-on software or running on dated or inadequate hardware.
Solutions
Disable hardware graphics acceleration

Open Microsoft Word
-
Select File
-
Select Options
-
Select Advanced and scroll down to Display
-
Check "Disable hardware graphics acceleration."

Select OK and Restart Office.
Delete Normal.dotm File
-
Open File Explorer
-
Navigate to C:\Users\[Username]\appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates
-
Delete the file labeled Normal.dotm
-
Open Microsoft Word to create a new Normal.dotm file.
Install Updates
-
Select Start button
-
Select Gear Icon
-
Select Update & Security
-
Select Check for updates
-
Open Microsoft Word and see if it is faster after updates are installed (it might require a system restart)
Repair Office

Select Start button
-
Select Gear Icon
-
Select Apps (For Windows 11 Users, select Apps and then Installed Apps)

Locate and Select the appropriate Microsoft Office installation
-
Select Advanced Options (For Windows 11 Users, this option can be found in the 3-dot menu on the right of the app)

Select Repair
-
Select Continue
-
Select Continue again
-
Open Microsoft Word and see if it is faster after updates are installed (it might require a system restart)
