Instructions on using the dedicated instructor computer in classrooms furnished by the College of Arts and Letters' IT.

Details

Power On the Computer

Most classrooms have either a desktop tower or an all-in-one for the instructor to use; however, it's not always obvious which type of computer is installed. A quick way of identifying the computer type is to look at the monitor:

If the monitor is thicker than most and has the Ethernet cable as well as the keyboard and mouse connected directly to it, your classroom has an all-in-one computer.
- The power button is most likely on the bottom-right edge of the monitor, or on the bottom edge of the right-hand side of the monitor.
If the monitor does not have an Ethernet cable plugged into it, your classroom has a desktop tower. Follow the display and/or keyboard and mouse cables to locate the tower, most likely beneath the podium.
- The power button should be on the face of the tower, above the USB ports.

Press the power button once to power up the computer.

Logging in to the Computer

At the Windows lock screen (with the Bengal head background), press the space bar (or drag up with the cursor) to access the log in screen.
In the username field, enter your ISU username (without the '@isu.edu' portion).
In the password field, enter your ISU password.
Press the return key (or click the arrow at the edge of the Password field).

Changing the Display Arrangement

The display arrangement in classrooms has a default setting to ensure a consistent experience across classrooms.

In classrooms without a Zoom Room system:

The main monitor on the podium mirrors the projector or TV at the front of the classroom.
Any back or side TV displays, or secondary monitors on the podium, will be mirrored and treated as an extended display from the main display.
- The second display is typically positioned to the right of the main display (move the cursor right from the main display to the secondary display); however, it may be to the left if the rear TV is naturally positioned to the left of the main monitor on the podium.
To change the display arrangement:
- Simultaneously press the Windows and P keys on the keyboard, or
- Right-click on the desktop background and choose Display settings.

In Zoom Room classrooms:

The Zoom Room system allocates content to displays based on conditional defaults (e.g., when screen sharing starts or when Zoom participants are online with their video on).

Note: Like other Windows computer labs on campus, classroom computers do not save changes beyond one user session (i.e., downloaded files, browser cookies, and settings will be deleted/reverted when you log out).
