Find Your MAC Address (Windows and macOS)

Description

This article provides instructions on how to find the Media Access Control (MAC) address of your Windows or macOS computer at Idaho State University (ISU). 

Note: You will need your MAC address when registering your device to DeviceNet.

Tips Before You Begin

  • The MAC address is different from an IP address.
  • The MAC address contains six pairs of letters and numbers.
    • Example: 00-1A-2B-3C-4D-5E

Find Your MAC Address in Windows

  1. Open the Start menu.
  2. Type Command Prompt in the search box and open the Command Prompt app.
  3. Type ipconfig and press Enter.
  4. Find the IPv4 line to locate your MAC address.

Find Your MAC Address in macOS

  1. Open the Apple menu.
  2. Select System Settings 
    • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Note: If you are using an older version of macOS, select System Preferences. 
  3. Select Network.
  4. Select Ethernet network.
  5. Select Details.
    • Note: If you are using an older version of macOS, select Advanced.
  6. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Select the TCP/IP tab.
  7. Find the IPv4 line to locate your IP address.
