How do I use Zoom on my PC or Mac?

Do you need an account to use Zoom?

  • To simply participate in a Zoom meeting you do not need a Zoom account to join. There are instances where the Host can restrict the meeting to only authenticated users who can join. In these cases, at least a free basic account is required.

How do I obtain an ISU Zoom account?

  • Zoom is connected to the University's single sign-on (SSO) system. 

  1. Go to ISU’s Zoom sign-in page [isu.zoom.us]
  2. Select Sign in.

  3. Enter your ISU Username and Password.

Faculty, Staff, and Students can use this “sign-in” method to automatically create their ISU Zoom account. Faculty and Staff will be automatically assigned an ISU Licensed Zoom account when they use the SSO option.

How do I schedule a meeting?

  • You can schedule a meeting on the web, through the Zoom Desktop client or mobile app, or through one of our many integrations. Learn more about scheduling a Zoom meeting. 

How do I invite others to join my meeting?

  • You can invite others to join your meeting by copying the join URL or meeting invitation and sending it out via email. There are many other ways to invite others to join your meeting - learn more.

Joining a Meeting

How do I join a Zoom meeting?

  • You can join a meeting by clicking the meeting link or going to join.zoom.us and entering in the meeting ID. Learn more about joining a meeting.  

How do I join computer/device audio?

  • On most devices, you can join computer/device audio by clicking Join Audio, Join with Computer Audio, or Audio to access the audio settings. Learn more about connecting your audio.

Can I use a Bluetooth headset?

  • Yes, as long as the Bluetooth device is compatible with the computer or mobile device that you are using.

Do I have to have a webcam to join on Zoom?

  • While you are not required to have a webcam to join a Zoom Meeting or Webinar, you will not be able to transmit a video of yourself. You will continue to be able to listen and speak during the meeting, share your screen, and view the webcam video of other participants. 

Zoom webinars or large meetings

What is the difference between a meeting, webinar, and large meeting?

  • The main difference between a Zoom meeting and large meeting is the number of participants. Typically, Zoom ISU accounts have a 300 participant capacity whereas the large meeting can be anywhere from 500 to 1000 (depending on availability). 
  • Meetings are designed to be a collaborative event where all parties can see, hear, and share with each other, whereas webinars are designed so that the host and designated panelists can share and view-only attendees can watch the presentation. How do I obtain a webinar license? 

  • The ITRC has a limited number of Zoom large meeting and webinar licenses available for check out to support academic programs at ISU. use this form to make a reservation: Zoom Large License Reservation Form   

How do I host a webinar?

  • After obtaining your webinar license, you can schedule your webinar on the Webinars page of Zoom.us. When it's time to start your webinar, you can start it from the Webinars page of Zoom.us or from the Meetings tab of your Zoom client. Learn more about getting started with Zoom webinars.

Can I convert a meeting to a webinar and vice versa?

  • If you have scheduled an event as a meeting or webinar that would be better suited as the other, you can convert it within Zoom.us. Note that you can only do this conversion once. For more information see: Converting meetings and webinars.

How do I share my screen?

  • Click Share in your meeting and choose the screen that you would like to share. Learn more about sharing your screen. 

Can I record my meeting?

  • All Zoom hosts can record locally to their computer. Hosts who are Licensed can also record to the Zoom cloud. In a Zoom meeting, press Record to start the recording. Learn more about local recording and cloud recording

Where do I find my recording?

  • By default, local recordings are saved to your documents folder. Cloud recordings can be found on the Recording page of your Zoom.us. Learn more about locating your recording.

How do I reset my password?

  • Zoom is connected to the University's single sign-on (SSO) system.Users will reset their password at iam.isu.edu. Enter your ISU Username, then click "Forgot your password?" This will reset your password for Google, MyISU, and Moodle ISU.

Troubleshooting

My video/camera isn't working.

There is an echo in my meeting.

  • Echo can be caused by many things, such as a participant connected to the meeting audio on multiple devices or two participants joined in from the same local. Learn about common causes of audio echo.

Audio isn't working on my mobile device.

I want a new feature or setting in Zoom.
