Connecting FileMaker Pro Client to CoE FileMaker Server

Resolution

Follow these steps to connect to the FileMaker Server "lemhi.coe.ed.isu.edu" or "owyhee.ed.isu.edu":

Prerequisites
  • Ensure that FileMaker Pro is installed on your client device.
  • Verify network access to the FileMaker Server (lemhi.coe.ed.isu.edu) through the necessary VPN connection or a wired Ethernet connection if within the specified campus buildings.
  • Confirm you have valid credentials (username and password) for accessing the databases hosted on the server.
Step-by-Step Guide
  1. Open FileMaker Pro:

    • Launch the FileMaker Pro application on your client device.
  2. Select Hosts:

    • Navigate to the 'File' menu and select 'Hosts' to view the list of available hosts.
  3. Add Server:

    • Click "Show Hosts".
    • Click the + button to the left of Search Hosts.
    • The Add Favorite Host dialog will appear.
    • Enter the hostname in the Host's Internet Address box: lemhi.coe.ed.isu.edu
  4. Connect to Server:

    • The server lemhi.coe.ed.isu.edu should now appear in the list of available hosts.
    • Select this server from the list.
  5. Choose a Database:

    • A list of available databases hosted on lemhi.coe.ed.isu.edu will be displayed.
    • Select the desired database. Most users will access the COE_Student_Records_2024 database.
  6. Enter Credentials:

    • When prompted, enter the username and password given to you by the COE Technology Office.
  7. Open Database:

    • Upon entering the correct credentials, the database will open in FileMaker Pro.
