Viewing Banner Report Output .lis & .log Files Using Notepad or Notepad++

Description

This article provides methods for opening and viewing .lis and .log files generated by Banner reports. These files often require a plain text editor to display correctly, especially for large or formatted content.

Details

Option 1 - Open with Notepad (or WordPad)
  1. Locate the file that you stored on your computer, either through the browser download icon in the browser navigation, or through File Explorer.
  2. Right-click on the desired file
  3. Hover your cursor over Open With
  4. Choose Notepad,  Wordpad, or Notepad++ from the list of available apps in the next menu. 
    • Note: if you don't see your desired app in the initial list,  click Choose another app
  5. (Optional) Check Always use this app to open .lis/.log files to make it the default.
  6. Click OK.
Option 2 - Use Notepad++ (Better for large files or formatted output)
  1. Download the latest free version of Notepad++ 
  2. Select the appropriate version for your computer specs in the downloads section of the Notepad++ website, and click Download Notepad++
  3. Install and Open Notepad++
  4. Go to the downloads link in your browser and open the file.
  5. Click YES (blue button) when prompted if you want to make changes to your computer.  
  6. Select the language you want installed on your computer and click OK (white button)
  7. Click Next> (white button)
  8. Click I Agree (white button) on the License Agreement box. 
  9. Click Next> (white button) on the Choose Install Location box.
  10. Click Next> (white button) on the Choose Components box.
  11. Click Install (white button) on the second Choose Components box
  12. Click Finish (white button) on the completing Notepad box.
  13. Go to Search in your Windows Desktop and type File Explorer, then press enter on your keyboard.
  14. Locate the .lis or .log file that you want to open from File Explorer.
  15. Click and drag the file into the Notepad++ window, or use File > Open on the Notepad++ app
