Getting Started with Duo Security

Duo Mobile Duo Security provides Multi-Factor Authentication for ISU, an essential extra layer of security for our online accounts. Whenever you log in to a Duo-protected website, you will be required to verify your identity using an additional device like your smartphone or tablet. This article will guide you on how to set up and use Duo at ISU.

Get Started
  1. Enroll Your Account in Duo
    • Go to MyISU, where you will be prompted to set up Duo Security.
      • Notes:
        • You must complete the Duo setup in one session using a smartphone or tablet.
        • We recommend updating your device to the latest version of iOS or Android for security patches, features, and improvements.
        • We recommend enrolling multiple devices (cell phones or tablets) to ensure access at all times.
  2. Download the Duo App to your Smartphone
    • Duo Mobile is available on Android and iOS devices through their respective app stores.
  • Notes:
    • To download Duo Mobile on your device, you must have the password for your device's app/play store.
    • Installing Duo Mobile on your smartphone or device is the best option for using Duo. If this is not possible, please get in touch with our IT Service Desk at (208)282-4357 for assistance.
  1. Activate Duo Mobile
    1. Click I have Duo Mobile Installed (green button) on your computer, then scan the QR Code with your device.
      • Note: If you're setting up Duo on your phone, choose Email me an activation link instead and check your ISU email for the link.
    2. Click Continue (green button) when you see the green check mark over the QR code on the Activate Duo Mobile screen.
    3. Choose an authentication method from the When I log in: drop-down.
      • Note: Duo Push is the ISU preferred method; however, both options are listed when signing on to ISU-protected systems and services.
    4. Click Finish Enrollment (blue button)

Use Duo
  • Duo Push (RECOMMENDED): the easiest, fastest, most reliable, & most secure method to authenticate.
    1. Log into an ISU-protected system (exe. MyISU, Banner, or Moodle)
    2. Click Send me a Push from your device (if a push doesn't show up in 15 seconds, go to the Duo app on your phone)
    3. Click Approve
    4. Open the Duo Mobile app request titled Are you logging into ISU Single Sign On?
      • Notes:
        • If you have turned off notifications for Duo Mobile, you can manually open the app to approve.
        • Once a push notification is sent, you have 60 seconds to approve the request.
  • Passcodes - You can receive a passcode by opening the Duo App and selecting Show under the ISU logo; this does not require wireless connectivity.
Note: You can select Remember me for 12 hours to bypass Duo authentication for twelve (12) hours. This applies to one (1) computer, IP address, and web browser. You will still be prompted to authenticate to Duo if you open another web browser or use another computer.
  1. Log in to a Duo-protected service like  MyISU, or Moodle
  2. Check the box Remember me for 12 hours.
  3. Click Send Me a Push or Enter a Passcode

Additional Info

  • Once you have signed up for Duo, you must use it.
