Description

Degree Works is ISU's web-based tool for helping students, faculty, and advisors monitor academic progress toward degree completion. It organizes coursework into an easy-to-read degree audit, summarizing completed and outstanding requirements. The tool also indicates how each requirement has been satisfied and suggests courses you can take to fulfill any remaining requirements. It's important to note that the degree audit is a supplement to academic advising, not a replacement for it.

Are there any graduation requirements that DegreeWorks does not verify?

Degree Works is a tool that checks most of the requirements needed for graduation. However, there may be additional requirements specific to your major that you will also need to complete. It’s important to use Degree Works alongside the academic catalog and to meet regularly with your academic advisor to ensure you stay on track for graduation.

Can I change my major or minor through DegreeWorks?

No - You should fill out a Change Major Request (CMR) form.

In the Main Menu, click on Discover
In the search bar, search for "Change Major Request - Students"
Click on Start New Change Major Request (CMR)
Follow on-screen instructions

Can I register for classes in DegreeWorks?

No -For more information on registering for classes, please visit the Office of the Registrar's Website.

Can I view my final grades in DegreeWorks?

Yes—Once grades are posted at the end of the semester or term, they are displayed in DegreeWorks.

Does my DegreeWorks audit eliminate the need to work with my academic advisor?

No -Degree Works is not a substitute for academic advising. Instead, it serves as a tool to help you and your advisor ensure you are on track to complete your degree or certificate. It is always best to maintain regular contact with your academic advisor.

Does DegreeWorks include my transfer courses?

Yes - Degreeworks does include transfer credits. The Office of the Registrar's transfer evaluation team reviews and evaluates official transcripts for transferable credit. Transfer credit outcomes are recorded on your official ISU academic record and can be viewed on your degree audit. All courses that transfer to ISU will have a "T" noted before the grade, such as TA, TB, TC, etc.

Does DegreeWorks show me who my advisor is?

Yes - Your degree audit worksheet notes your advisors at the top of the worksheet, in the student information section, and the envelope in the upper right corner.

Does the What-If worksheet change my record?

No - Viewing a What-If worksheet does not change your academic record. Instead, it shows your progress if you change your major, minor, concentration, catalog year, or other aspects.

How current is the information in DegreeWorks?

Your student information is automatically refreshed from Banner overnight. If you need your changes reflected in Degree Works on the same day, please get in touch with your advisor.

How do I know what classes I need to take?

Your audit will detail the courses required to fulfill your degree requirements. You can use the DegreeWorks information to plan a discussion with your Academic Advisor.

Is it acceptable for DegreeWorks to categorize a course into two different sections?

Degree Works recognizes that some courses can satisfy multiple requirements in most cases. If you have any questions, please contact your advisor.

Is my DegreeWorks Audit Worksheet the same as my Academic Transcript?

No - The Degree Works audit is an unofficial advising and planning tool, but it is not your official academic transcript or proof of degree completion.

What calculators are in DegreeWorks?

Graduation Calculator - This tool calculates your average GPA in the remaining courses to achieve your desired overall GPA.
Term Calculator - This tool calculates your cumulative GPA based on the grades you expect to earn this term. The coursework for the current term will be automatically filled in, but you can delete or customize it as necessary.
Advice Calculator—This tool guides you in raising or lowering your GPA by analyzing your actual grades and the corresponding credit hours.

What does my audit look like if I’m pursuing two degrees?

Click the drop-down arrow next to the degree information at the top of the audit to view additional degrees. The degree audit will then display the additional majors.

What if my DegreeWorks audit shows a program different from my intended major?

Please get in touch with your academic advisor to discuss this matter.

What if my minor is missing from my degree audit?

It will not appear on your degree audit if you have not officially declared a minor. To learn how to declare a minor, please get in touch with your advisor. If you have already declared your minor, but it is still not showing up, reach out to the Office of the Registrar for assistance.

When should I review the audit and information in DegreeWorks?

Before meeting with your academic advisor
Before registering periods
After registration to ensure your courses have been applied to degree requirements correctly
Any time a change is made to your schedule or major
After grades are posted each semester
Before graduation to confirm all requirements will be complete

Why do the Credits Applied show more than I have completed?

DegreeWorks takes into account both completed and in-progress courses when calculating Credits Applied. In-progress courses include those currently enrolled in and those you are registered for in upcoming terms. If you do not complete an in-progress class, it will be removed from the Credits Applied calculation once grades are processed.

Why is the “What-If” feature in DegreeWorks not functioning? Why are some options in the drop-down menu unavailable?

The order of your selections is crucial for conducting a What-If audit. First, select the catalog, and then choose the degree or program. The remaining fields will automatically update based on these two selections. Only concentrations that apply to the chosen major and catalog will be displayed.

Why are some courses not applied to my degree requirements?

Courses categorized under the Non-Required or Insufficient blocks do not fulfill program requirements. However, the credits and grades from the Non-Required block will contribute to your overall GPA and may count toward the total number of credits needed to complete your degree. It is advisable to contact your academic advisor for any questions regarding these blocks.

Will I automatically graduate if everything is checked off in DegreeWorks?

No - You must apply for graduation and pay the associated fee to graduate. Your academic advisor will review your audit and send it to the Registrar’s Office. They will verify that all degree requirements have been met and everything is in order.
