Blocks in Moodle ISU [Faculty]

Description

Blocks are items which may be added to the right of your Moodle page. Blocks can be very helpful in adding functionality to your Moodle ISU pages.

This Guide Will Help You to:

  • Add a block to your course

  • Move a block in your course

  • Understand the common blocks

  • Seek further assistance

Add a block to your course

You can select a wide variety of blocks adding a significant amount of functionality.

  1. Access the course where you wish to add the block.

  2. Toggle editing on. For more information, see Moodle ISU Overview

  3. If the Block drawer is not open, select the carrot (<) to open the drawer on the right side of the screen.

  1. Select the Add a Block button and select the desired block from the Add a block menu that pops up.

Note: New blocks will appear under the Add a block button.

Move a block in your course

Blocks can be moved up or down the Block drawer. This will allow you to set the block in the area where it will be of most use and visibility.

  1. Toggle editing on. For more information, see Moodle ISU Overview

  2. Locate the block you would like to move.

  3. Select and hold the perpendicular arrows.

  1. Drag the block to the space you would like it to occupy.

  2. Release the cursor.

Understand the common blocks

Activities - The Activities block lists and allows navigation between the different activities available in your course

People - The People block will allow you to view the participants in your class.

Latest News - The Latest News block will allow you to add new topics for the course and view older topics that have been posted.

Upcoming Events - This block lets you add an event to the calendar or view events that are already scheduled for the class.

Calendar - The Calendar block displays a calendar of upcoming events and lets you create new events for the course.

Private Files - The Private Files block will assist you to edit and organize your private files.

Recent Activity - The Recent Activity block will show you the recent activity in the course. This includes forum posts, quiz submissions, and content changes.

Completion Progress - The Completion Progress block allows you to track student progression throughout the course.
