Options for replacing Moodle ISU Choice Activities in ISU Canvas

What are the options for converting Moodle ISU Choice activities in ISU Canvas?

  • There are two options in ISU Canvas for creating an equivalent to the Moodle ISU Choice activity: Canvas Survey and Atomic Poll. The method you select will depend on what you would like to accomplish.
    • Review the Canvas Survey vs. Atomic Poll section.
    • Follow the instructions for your selected option for peer review.

What is an ISU Canvas Survey?

  • Moodle Choice activities will import into ISU Canvas as an ungraded survey.
  • Graded surveys appear in the Syllabus, Gradebook, Calendar and To Do Lists.
  • Responses can be downloaded as a CSV file for analysis.
  • Can be changed to a graded survey.
  • Canvas surveys can be made anonymous, before, during, and after by changing a setting.
  • Note: If you do not have a description in your Moodle ISU Choice activity, the first option will be the question text.

What is an Atomic Poll?

  • Benefits
    • It can be embedded anywhere in Canvas within the rich text editor. This allows for seamless integration with an existing page, assignment, discussion, etc.
    • The poll and responses can be automatically hidden from students after two weeks, with the remaining content remaining visible.
    • Includes a greater variety of question types, such as ranking, and explanations for their choice.
    • You can provide pre-determined feedback based on a student's choice.
    • Results can be displayed as percentage, number, or both.
    Caveats
    • Some of the question types are not mobile friendly and/or accessible for some students with disabilities.
    • Some users have had problems with the Canvas mobile app not allowing for screen orientation rotation (from vertical to horizontal) which can cause a problem if there are horizontal images or layouts.

To create an Atomic Poll, see Atomic Polls.
