Adding a Syllabus Statement

When adding Honorlock, please consider adding a syllabus statement similar to the following:

  • Exam Proctoring: All exams in this course will be administered through Honorlock, an online proctoring service. To take exams, you must use a browser that supports the Honorlock Extension, such as Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. You will be prompted to install the Honorlock Extension when you first log in. You will also need a reliable internet connection, a webcam, and a microphone. During exams, Honorlock will monitor your testing environment using video, audio, and screen recordings. You will also be asked to show a valid photo ID and complete a brief room scan before starting. Please ensure you are in a quiet, well-lit space free of distractions. Any behaviors flagged by Honorlock will be reviewed by your instructor. You are expected to follow the exam rules provided for each test (e.g., no phones, no AI use). For additional details on preparing for a proctored exam, please consult the Online Proctoring Resources for Students TigerTracks article.
  • Honorlock provides 24/7 technical support directly within the platform. Please test your system in advance and contact Honorlock support immediately if you encounter issues. The Honorlock support system can be accessed at: Honorlock Live Support (external link).
  • Honorlock Guided Tour: Please go through the Guided Tour (external link) provided by Honorlock to help you navigate this software.

Proctoring Best Practices

  • Set up your proctored exams at the start of the semester and provide a low-stakes practice test. See the article, Adding an Honorlock Practice Exam for more information.
  • Notify students at the start of the semester that online proctoring solutions will be utilized.
  • Provide clear technology requirements: Computer, internet, webcam, speaker, and microphone. Encourage students to run the Honorlock System Check (external link).
  • Provide an opt-out policy and alternative proctoring options and/or alternative assessments for students opting out of online proctoring solutions.
  • Inform Students About Honorlock Live Support (external link). Students should be advised that if a flag occurs, they do not need to panic, as the Honorlock test proctor is available to provide assistance and answer questions. Students can use the Honorlock chat tool for live support, as the proctoring team is a reliable source of information and is trained by a nationally certified counselor and educator to support students experiencing test anxiety.
  • Provide a clear policy on Academic integrity and consequences for dishonest behavior. See the ISU Academic Integrity and Dishonesty Policy (external link).
  • See Honorlock's Recommended Exam Guidelines (external link) for additional information.
