Using a Digital Voice Recorder

This article provides instructions on how to use the digital voice recorder provided by Disability Services at Idaho State University (ISU).

Identifying the Recorder Components

  • To turn on the power, there is a slide button on the top of the right side of the recorder. 
  • There are inputs on the left side of the recorder to connect headphones or a microphone.
  • On the back, there is a slide to push out or pull in the USB.
  • The kickstand on the back can be used to prop up the recorder.

Setting the Date and Time

The first time you turn on the recorder, it may ask for the date and time.

  1. Using the left and right buttons on the center control circle, scroll to access the different options (year, month, day, time).
  2. When you select an option, you can change it by using the up and down buttons in the center control circle.
  3. When the date and time are correct, press the OK button in the center of the control circle.

Recording

  1. From the home screen select the recorder option.
  2. Some folders will poip up where you can organize your recordings. Choose the folder you want your recording to be saved to and press the rec button.
  3. To stop the recording, press the stop button.
  4. To go back to files, press the folder/index button.
  5. To go back to the menu, press the back/left button.
  6. Erase files by selecting the erase button.

Uploading Audio Files

You can upload your own music or audio files (such as a podcast) onto the recorder to listen to later.

  1. Upload the files onto a USB from your computer.
  2. Use the slide on the back of the recorder and insert the USB.
  3. Select a file folder on the recorder to upload the files to.

Accessing the Sub-Menus

  1. Select the menu button to access sub-menus: File, Rec (Recorder), Play, LDC/Sound, and device.
  2. To exit the menu, press the menu button again - this will bring you to the home screen

Tip: You may wnat to go to the LCD/Sound sub-menu and toggle off the beeping sound that occurs when using the home screen features.

Using the Calendar

  1. Access the calendar by selecting the calendar button. There you can select a date and view the files recorded on that date.
  2. If the date is input incorrectly, you can edit it by going to the menu, then scrolling down to the device sub-menu and selecting the time and date option.
  3. To exit the calendar, press the calendar button again.
