GlobalProtect VPN Installation and Use for Windows

Description

This article provides instructions on how to install, configure, connect to and disconnect from the GlobalProtect VPN on Windows devices at Idaho State University (ISU).

Before you Begin

  • Estimated time: 10-15 minutes. (first-time setup)
  • Requirements: ISU username, password, and Duo authentication.
  • You will need an email confirmation that VPN access has been granted before installing the software.

Guide Navigation

Check your Windows Version (32-bit or 64-bit)

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Click System.
  3. Click About.
  4. Under Device Specifications, locate System type.
    • Note: This will display either 64-bit operating system or 32-bit operating system. 

Install GlobalProtect VPN

  1. Go to the  Paloalto GlobalProtect Portal (external link).
  2. Enter your ISU Username and Password:
  3. Click Log In.
    • If using Duo Mobile, approve the push notification.
    • If you are using a Duo token or passcode, enter it in this format:
      • Password,123456 (no spaces).
  4. Sign in successfully.
  5. Select the download that matches your system type:
    • Windows 64-bit GlobalProtect agent or
    • Windows 32-bit GlobalProtect agent
  6. Open the downloaded file from your Downloads folder.
  7. Follow the installation prompts:
    • Click Next through each step. (as prompted)
    • Click Yes when prompted by User Account Control
  8. When the installation is complete, click Close.

Step 3: Connect to the VPN

  1. In the Windows taskbar, click Show hidden icons
  2. Click the GlobalProtect icon.
  3. In the portal field, enter:
    • bengalgateway.isu.edu
  4. Click Connect.
  5. Enter your ISU Username and Password.
    • If using Duo Mobile, approve the push notification.
    • ​​​​​​​If you are using a Duo token or passcode, enter it in this format:
      • Password,123456 (no spaces).
  6. Click Connect to complete sign-in

Disconnect from the VPN 

Note: Always disconnect from the VPN when it is not needed for ISU work.

  1. In the Windows taskbar, click Show hidden icons.​​​​​​​
  2. Click the GlobalProtect icon.
  3. Click Disconnect.
