Creating a Panopto Video Assignment in ISU Canvas

Description

This article provides instructions on how to create a Panopto Video Assignment so that students can submit their Panopto recordings for grading in ISU Canvas at Idaho State University (ISU).

Creating a Panopto Assignment

  1. In the Canvas course, select Panopto from the left-hand Course Navigation.
    1. If Panopto does not appear in the Course Navigation, click on Settings.
    2. Click on the Navigation tab.
    3. Locate Panopto in the list of disabled items and click on the Options icon (3 dots) and select +Enable.
  2. In the course folder that appears, expand the options menu from the upper right-hand corner and select Settings.
  3. On the Overview tab of the folder settings that appears, select Create Assignment Folder. Please note: The Canvas integration will automatically add students in your course as Viewers to the course folder in Panopto.   4. Create an assignment in Canvas by selecting the Assignments tab located in the Course Navigation and then click the +Assignment button in the top right to add a new assignment.
  5. In the Assignment editor, add the assignment instructions in the text box.
    1. Make sure that the Submission Type is set to Online and then set to Text Entry so that students have access to the Panopto embed tool.
  6. Click Save at the bottom to save the assignment, and then select Publish when you are ready for students to review it. The Publish button will now state Published to indicate that your students can view it and submit their Panopto recordings using the instructions in How to Submit a Video Assignment in Canvas (external link).

Grading Student Submissions

  1. Navigate to the Assignment and click SpeedGrader in the upper right corner.
  2. Each submission will include an embedded version of the students' Panopto video(s).
