Google Storage Takeout

Description
Google Takeout is a tool that allows you to export a copy of content in your Google Account to back it up or use it with a service outside of Google (such as Google Drive or Gmail content).
  • You will have the option to store this data on your computer, on an external hard drive, or to upload it to a third-party cloud storage service.

This article provides step-by-step instructions on using Google Takeout.

Dividing Exports
We suggest dividing your exports into individual requests based on the service (e.g. make one request for Gmail data, another for Drive data, etc.).
  • If one service experiences an outage or failure during the export, Takeout will terminate the export, and you will need to restart the process again.
  • The exported file may not include changes made to your data between when you request a download and when the archive is created (e.g. changes to sharing type or permissions for a Drive file, resolved comments on a Drive file, added or deleted photos or albums).
Note:
  • Google Takeout does not automatically delete the data you exported from your Google account. You must return to your account and manually remove any data no longer required in Google.
  • Please refer to the Google's How to download your Google Data article for additional information.
  • We recommend using Google Chrome when using Google Takeout.
Using Google Takeout
  1. Go to Google Takeout
  2. Sign in with your ISU email and Password (if prompted)
    • Note: If you are not prompted to sign in, confirm using your ISU account by hovering over the circle with your profile image or initials at the top right corner and ensure it displays your ISU email address.
      • If you are not using your ISU account, click on your profile image or initials at the top right corner of your browser. Then, select the profile with your ISU information.
      • If your ISU profile isn't already added as another account, choose Add Another Account at the bottom of this menu and add your ISU account.
  3. Click Deselect All in the upper right corner of the Products section, as Google automatically selects services that store your data.
  4. Select the data you want to export.
  5. Scroll and click Next Step (bottom of page)
  6. Choose where you would like this exported data to go by selecting the drop-down box under Transfer to:
    • Note: Depending on your destination, specific instructions for exporting your data are provided in the drop-down menus below.
    • We recognize that saving to Dropbox and OneDrive is a possibility, but it's important to note that ISU data should not be stored there. Because of this, we've solely provided instructions for downloading data via email and adding files to Box.
Note:
  • Avoid retrying the same Takeout request while awaiting completion, as it may lead to duplicated effort/data and potential confusion.
  • However, you can promptly submit additional Takeout request(s) for additional Google data types depending on how/if you are dividing your exports (e.g. Contacts, Calendars, Email, etc.). There's no need to wait for your other Google Takeout request(s).
After completing your Google Takeout Request, please select how you would like the data transferred by following the directions below.

Note:
  • To ensure a proper export, it is crucial to compare your Google Takeout data with the original data still present in your Google account.
  • If your Google Takeout fails or any of your data is missing, consider retrying the Google Takeout process or manually downloading your files/folders from Google Drive to your desktop.

Alternatively, you can manually export your Google Calendars and Contacts and transfer your Photos to a personal Google account. These options can help you retrieve your data in case of any issues with Google Takeout.
