Google Storage Management Tips

Issue / Question
  • How can I get my ISU Google account under the set quota?
Resolution
It's important to know that your storage limit on Google is used for both Google Drive and Gmail. Keeping an eye on your storage usage can prevent any unexpected issues. If you go over your storage limit, you will need to delete files. To check what is using up the most space, you can go to your Google Storage Settings.
  • Note:
    • Google Photos will be unavailable after April 15th.
    • When you delete a file, it is moved to the trash and still takes up space for 30 days. You can manually empty your trash to free up space.
Check Your Current Storage
If you are unsure of your storage limit, Please visit the ITS website to check the data usage limits associated with your affiliation. When your account reaches its storage limit, Drive will not allow you to upload or create files. You will still receive emails but will be notified that you are over the limit.
  • Go to Google Drive Storage to view a detailed breakdown of your Google storage usage in Google Drive.
    • Note: You can view your Google storage by logging into your Gmail Account with your ISU username and password.
If you cannot access Google Drive, please check your data usage using the following steps.
  1. Sign in to your ISU Email with your username and password
  2. Scroll down to the bottom of your email to view your data usage.
