Forum Activity: Participate in a Discussion [Student]

Forums in Moodle ISU allow students to answer questions, reply to one another, and discuss specific topics. You may also choose to subscribe or unsubscribe to forums. This determines whether you receive email notifications anytime your instructor or a fellow student posts a new discussion or reply.

This Guide Will Help You to:

Participate in forums

A Basic forum consists of adding a new discussion and replying to existing discussions. Depending on different setup options, some features might be disabled. Contact your instructor if you have questions. 

  1. On the course page, click on the forum.


  1. Choose either to post a discussion or reply to an existing discussion:

Post a discussion:

  1. Click the Add a new discussion topic button

  1. Provide both a Subject and Message.

  2. If desired, use the Attachment file picker to add an image, video, or document.  

  3. Click Post to forum

Post a reply

  1. Click on the existing discussion

  1. At the bottom right, select Reply

  1. Provide a Message.

  2. If adding a File is desired, click Advanced to show the Attachment file picker to upload an image, video, or document.  

  3. Click Post to forum

Identify the announcements forums

Located at the top of each course, the Announcements forum contains any information or announcements that the instructor wants to share with the class. Students will not be able to post or reply to the Announcements.
